Our Mission
Deebo Haven Center is an Authorized Non-Governmental organization. Our mission is to empower survivors of human trafficking by removing financial and personal barriers that hinder their path to independence. We are committed to fostering a future where every person can thrive with dignity, free from exploitation, and equipped with the resources to build a better tomorrow.
What Is Human Trafficking?
Human trafficking occurs when a trafficker uses force, fraud or coercion to control another person for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or soliciting labor or services against his/her will. Force, fraud, or coercion need not be present if the individual engaging in commercial sex is under 18 years of age.
Healing and Hope: A Survivor’s Journey Forward
THE DILEMMA
Escaping the grip of human trafficking is an uphill battle, with many obstacles hindering the journey toward true freedom. For survivors, the burden of criminal records and damaging details on background checks or credit reports can create significant roadblocks, restricting access to vital necessities such as stable housing, employment opportunities, and crucial support systems. These barriers make it even more difficult to regain control, rebuild, and establish long-term security.
THE RESOLUTIONS
The Debt Bondage Repair Act was enacted to prevent consumer reporting agencies from including negative information in credit reports for individuals who have survived human trafficking. This federal law introduces a process to block the reporting of harmful financial data, eliminating a major obstacle that hinders survivors from achieving economic stability and regaining their independence.
THE APPROACH
Deebo Haven Center, in collaboration with human trafficking task forces, government agencies, and judicial systems, has established a system that enables trafficking survivors to access the protections and benefits provided under Section 605C of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This initiative helps survivors clear harmful financial records that may hinder their ability to secure housing, employment, or financial assistance.
Debt Bondage: Forced labor victims might also be victims of debt bondage, wherein they are deceived into working for insufficient or no pay to settle a debt. The employer or controller employs various tactics to ensnare the victim into an endless cycle of debt that can never be paid off, and may even be inherited by the family.
How Tech Is Fight Human Trafficking
AI and Machine Learning for Data Analysis
Law enforcement agencies and NGOs use AI-powered tools to analyze vast amounts of online data, identifying trafficking patterns, suspicious ads, and social media activity related to human trafficking. Platforms like Traffic Jam and Thorn’s Spotlight help investigators find victims faster.
Blockchain for Secure Identity Protection
Blockchain technology is being used to create secure, verifiable digital identities for at-risk individuals, particularly refugees and displaced persons who are vulnerable to trafficking. Organizations like ID2020 work to prevent identity fraud and protect victims.
Web Scraping and Dark Web Monitoring
Cybersecurity tools and web crawlers scan both the surface web and the dark web for illicit activities related to human trafficking, including advertisements and recruitment tactics used by traffickers. Law enforcement agencies use these insights to track and dismantle trafficking networks.
